ADIÓS JUAN CAVERO

En el cielo Se Prendió la Fiesta. Llegó Juan Cavero para animar el Atardecer Ye Ye de los moradores de la tierra de los buenos.  Llegó con su Nuevo Sonido, Viajando y Cantando. Llegó entre La Espuma del Mar, entre La Luna, El Sol y El Cielo para que las almas Sigan Bailando. Y mientras Bartolo lee los Proverbios de Bonifacio,  y los emelecistas le piden La Canción del Emelec y los barcelonistas, Camisetas Amarillas, San Pedro Prende La Vela, realiza El Brindis y todos le dicen: Bienvenido. Mientras en la tierra lo llora “La Niña de los Ojos Tristes”. Sí. En el Cielo se prendió la fiesta porque ha llegado Juan Cavero. Llegó el pasado 27 de junio, luego de 85 años de vivir cantando, animando fiestas, brindando conciertos, llevando ritmo y alegría, haciendo música, porque eso es lo que fue el cantante ecuatoriano de ritmos tropicales: La Música.

Juan Cavero, es, porque nunca dejará de serlo, un ícono de la música ecuatoriana, ¿quién de la vieja guardia, con seguridad y de la nueva, quizá, no bailó al ritmo de sus cumbias y merecumbés? y ¿quién no arrimó a su pareja al son de sus boleros? Juan Cavero fue el referente de la música tropical de los 60 y 70 que supo mantenerse vigente hasta pocos años antes de emprender su último viaje. Juan Cavero fue Juan Cavero, uno de los músicos más representativos del pentagrama ecuatoriano.

Tuve el honor de conocer a Juan Cavero, porque es primo de dos padres de buenos amigos míos, de don Rafael Robles Neira, papá de mis yuntas del alma, Totico, Yoli, Simón, César y Luchi y de don Rafael Coronel Robles, padre de mis amigas María Josefa, Raquel “Chiqui” y María Eugenia “La Mary”. Los tres primos eran muy allegados y algunas veces en sus fiestas familiares estuvo el músico, la mayoría de ellas como invitado y en otras, animando la pachanga. La última vez que lo vi fue en febrero de 2015, cuando la barra Boca del Pozo, organizó un acto relacionado al equipo de mis amores para celebrar el bicampeonato 2014-2015 en el teatro Fedenador. Allí se presentó él, cantando la canción que escribió en honor al club y que lo hiciera famoso en la fanaticada “Eléctrica”. La canción del Emelec se llamaba el Tema. Allí conversamos un rato y contó ciertas anécdotas que nos hicieron reír a carcajadas, porque él era muy ocurrido y tenía muchas cosas divertidas que contar.

Nacido para cantar

Nacido en 1935 Guayaquil y fallecido a los 85 años de edad, el sábado 27 de junio de 2010, a causa de complicaciones de una diabetes e hipertensión, Juan Cavero Robles, se inició en la música muy pequeño, de niño, para ser exactos. Fue a los siete años, cuando integró el coro de la escuela Don Bosco del Callao de los Hermanos Salesianos, en El Callao (Perú) y cantaba temas religiosos en latín en las misas, en la época que el cura le daba la espalda a los feligreses. A tierras peruanas había llegado por que en Guayaquil, su abuelo, Francisco Robles, había donado a la Comunidad Salesiana, unos terrenos de su propiedad, ubicados en el tradicional, aristocrático y conocido Barrio del Centenario, donde se edificó el actual colegio Cristóbal Colón. Los sacerdotes en agradecimiento, acordaron que los hijos y nietos de este benefactor, estudien en cualquier institución salesiana del mundo. Y así el entonces niño Cavero llegó al puerto del Callao, ubicado en el centro-oeste del Perú y a su vez en la costa central del litoral peruano, en la zona central occidental de América del Sur.

Y como todos vuelven a la tierra que nacieron, Juan Cavero, volvió 10 años después, en la adolescencia de sus 17 años para disfrutar de su ciudad. Así llegó a vivir con su tío Pedro Robles Chambers, donde tuvo su primer amigo en la ciudad, su primo hermano, Rafael Coronel Robles. Aquí, pese a que su familia no estaba de acuerdo con su afición musical, entró a estudiar canto en el conservatorio de música Antonio Neumane con la maestra estadounidense, Nadina Foster Davis. En 1956, a los 22 años, se inició en el canto profesional en radio Excelsior, en el programa ‘Nocturnales Románticos’ junto a Curro Silva y su conjunto “Debuté con la canción Romance Bajo la Luna, estaba un poco nervioso, pero me pude controlar”, confesó el músico en una en una nota de Diario El Universo, publicada en el suplemento Viva, el 26 de septiembre de 2013, titulada Juan Cavero el Caballero de Samborondón, escrita por Héctor Pérez Name.

En otra nota de El Universo, publicada el 15 de agosto de 2009, publicada en la Sección Cultura, titulada “Y sigue la Fiesta con Juan Cavero, el Caballero del Ritmo”, el artista contó detalles de su carrera. “En 1957 animé a los hermanos Silva a formar un conjunto para tocar en bailes y fiestas particulares. Tocábamos música bailable. Ese mismo año grabé mi primer disco de 45 revoluciones con el merengue Palo, palito, y dos años después, mi primero de bolero. En 1963, con Pedro Zambrano en el contrabajo, el argentino Benjamín Feliz en saxo y clarinete, Hugo Silva Vanegas en batería y Patricio Barba en la guitarra eléctrica formé Juan Cavero y su conjunto, que daría harta candela. En esa época grababa para el sello Orión de Ifesa, en un estudio pequeñito y con un solo micrófono. En invierno, cuando había un grillo, parábamos hasta que se calle o había que matarlo para poder seguir. Entrabas a las diez de la noche, te daban las tres de la mañana y solo habías grabado una canción”.

El Caballero del Ritmo, como se lo conoce artísticamente, luego de que formó su propio conjunto extendió su fama por la ciudad, tocando en casi todos los colegios de Guayaquil y en cumpleaños, quinceañeras, matrimonios, y fiestas estudiantiles. “Tenía muchas fans, claro que en ese tiempo yo tenía otra pinta, obviamente, pero pude controlar esa fama”, contó en la misma nota.

En esa nota, contó con nostalgia y pesar, que en 1974, se vio obligado a desintegrar su orquesta, cuando surgieron los disc-jockey que cobraban la sexta parte de lo que pedían las orquestas. “Así mataron a las orquestas Blacio, América, Los 5 Ases, el Pibe Aráuz y  se acabó Juan Cavero”. Pero eso, no terminó con su carrera musical pues siguió cantando en fiestas particulares y locales nocturnos de Samborondón, en los que alternó la música romántica con la tropical

Cavero, fue un artista de proyección internacional. Su talento musical le permitió  cantar en Estados Unidos, Puerto Rico y Panamá. En 1968, tuvo oportunidad de alternar shows con la orquesta de la Sonora Matancera y también tocó  en el Hotel Ambassador de Los Angeles, donde Sirhan-Sirhan le quitó la vida a Robert Kennedy. Además grabó 20 discos de larga duración (Long Play /LP), 20 discos de 45 revoluciones y 15 discos compactos (CD). Por su éxito en ventas, con los temas: Se Prendió la fiesta, Bartolo y La danza de la Chiva, ganó tres discos de oro 1965, 1967 y 1968. “En el 66 me ganaron Los Brillantes, en esa época competíamos entre agrupaciones, pero lo hacíamos sanamente”, manifestaba en esa nota.

Entre sus discos LP, están: Viajando y Cantando con Juan Cavero y su Conjunto, Atardecer Ye Ye, El Nuevo Sonido de Juan Cavero, Bienvenido, Y Siga Bailando con Juan Cavero, Se Prendió La Fiesta, La Misma Cangrejá  y El Disco de Oro. Entre sus discos sencillos, destacan: La Cosecha de Mujeres, Espuma de Mar, Prende La Vela, Bartolo, Los Proverbios de Bonifacio, El Brujo, Mariposa, La Niña de los Ojos Tristes, El Conde, Ay que Pila, La Luna El Sol y El Cielo, Los Complejos de mi Hermano, La Danza de la Chiva Además tiene dos discos de compilaciones: Un Brindis con Juan Cavero y Su Conjunto y La Tanda de Juan Cavero

Cantos al Astillero

Cavero, hincha emelecista confeso, le cantó al fútbol guayaquileño, componiendo dos canciones emblemáticas para los equipos del Barrio del Astillero. En 1966 hizo La Canción del Emelec (ese es su nombre oficial), en homenaje a su club que en 1965 fue campeón nacional y en 1966 monarca de Guayaquil en los torneos de la Asociación del Fútbol del Guayas. El 1970 por el mismo motivo (ser campeón), le compuso a Barcelona el tradicional tema “Camisetas Amarillas”.

La canción azul, cuya música es de Israel Vitenszteim Vurm, más conocido en el mundo musical como Carlos Argentino (en honor a su país natal), uno de los cantantes símbolos de la Sonora Matancera decía entre sus estrofas: “El Ballet Azul, señores, este año se pasó, y del pueblo ecuatoriano es el cuadro sensación; sin estrellas ni vedetes, siempre luchando con fe, así gana los partidos el equipo de Emelec. Y ya lo ve, y ya lo ve, es el equipo de Emelec”, cuyo estribillo del coro, hace referencia al tradicional cántico del equipo bonaerense, Racing de Avellaneda,  «y ya o ve, y ya lo ve, es el equipo de José», que hace referencia  al DT Juan José Pizutti, quien dirigió al elenco gaucho campeón de la Copa Libertadores y la Intercontinental en 1966. El tema, que tuvo una venta inicial de 5.000 discos, será recordado eternamente por los hinchas azules, quienes retumban el Capwell entonándola hasta quedarse sin aliento cada vez que asisten a su reducto para apoyar al equipo de sus amores.

Y para que los del otro equipo, uno salten y a fuerza de ser justos, aunque para mí sea injusto, también contaré algo de Camisetas Amarillas: “La hinchada de Barcelona grita, grita con donaire, cuando suenan las trompetas, trompe, trompetas se ponen… camisetas amarillas mi equipo es Barcelona, camisetas amarillas mi equipo es el campeón, camisetas amarillas que ganan por goleada… somos los campeones, dónde está la Copa”.

¿Dónde está la Copa? La copa debe estar en nuestras manos para hacer un brindis en su memoria y recordarlo como lo que fue: un grande. Allí con copa en mano lo oiremos cantar: “Sácale el jugo a la orquesta / mira que no hay otra igual./ Yo bailo hasta que amanezca/ este ritmo tropical./ Ya se prendió la fiesta…”.
